Expanding Independence and Imagination

In our 3s class, children take huge steps in independence and self-expression. This is the year where preschoolers truly begin to see themselves as learners, helpers, and friends. We love watching three-year-olds turn into storytellers, problem-solvers, and confident participants in the classroom community.

At three, curiosity is at its peak. Our play-based curriculum introduces early academics in a joyful, pressure-free way:

Letters & Literacy:
Children begin to recognize letters—especially those in their own names—“reading” pictures in books, and retelling favorite stories with props and friends.

Math & Counting:
We weave counting and simple math into daily routines—like “shopping” in a pretend grocery store, hunting for alphabet letters in sensory bins, and building with blocks.

Fine Motor Skills:
Hands-on activities such as stringing beads, painting, and safely using scissors help build coordination and prepare for writing skills in the future.

Creative Projects & Thematic Learning

Our threes class dives into creative themes and collaborative projects that keep kids engaged. Whether they’re making collaborative art, exploring dramatic play themes (like running a pet shop or going on a nature scavenger hunt), or cooking together—such as making latkes with their buddy class—every project turns learning into an adventure. Cooking and nature projects even sneak in math and science skills, with measuring, counting, and observing changes.

Social Skills, Classroom Jobs, and Kindness

Three-year-olds are developing social and emotional skills that endure throughout life. In our class, children practice sharing, working together in small groups, and following daily routines with less help. Teachers use Conscious Discipline strategies to help kids navigate feelings and build friendships. Classroom jobs like line leader or weather reporter give children pride and a sense of responsibility. Each day, children practice kindness and inclusion, guided gently by experienced teachers.

Values and Traditions—A Welcoming, Enriching Environment

Every child in our 3s class takes part in simple, inclusive traditions that build community and character. We welcome Shabbat each Friday with songs and stories, and each month, children explore a universal value—like gratitude, kindness, or helping others—often tied to a story or classroom celebration. Whether it’s a Jewish holiday or learning about community helpers, every tradition is taught in a way that resonates with all families.

Small Groups, Big Support—Our Teacher-to-Child Ratio

In the 3s class at Temple Beth Or Preschool, we keep groups small to give every child meaningful attention and support. With two caring teachers for a maximum of 14 children (a 1:7 ratio), each child is seen, heard, and encouraged to shine. Sometimes you will even see three to four teachers in the class providing additional support and attention to each student. This low ratio allows our teachers to respond to individual needs, guide social interactions, and help every three-year-old grow in confidence—every single day.
